Take a moment to think of all the things you perceive on a daily basis. At any given moment, you might see the beauty of nature, listen to your favorite song, sip your special ordered coffee at Starbucks, and laugh with your best friends over lunch. All of these things help make up our conscious experience and allow us to interact with the people and objects around us.
What is perception?
Perception to me – means the way I view life. The way I evaluate every situation and conversation. Perception is the lens that I look through. As you will see, many times we need to re-evaluate the information or the processed outcome – especially, if it’s based on faulty data.
Perception is powerful. Perception has the power to direct your steps and affect your life. It is the intake of information through your senses: Sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch.
The sensory process includes:
- The intake of information will come from one or more of your senses,
- The sensory neurons will send information to your brain,
- Your brain will process the information,
- The information will trigger an emotion, and
- A response.
Your emotions and senses are very tightly intertwined. What you see, hear, taste, smell and touch can provide you with information on how you feel. The brain stores your emotional memory in the secondary sensory part of your brain.
For an example: You can think about a cup of coffee, or think about the beach, or hear a song and trigger an emotion. These emotions are stored in your emotional memories.
These five sensory gates are the first line of defense that receive information and send them to the brain to be processed. Once that information is processed – the information becomes your perception.
This is why your perception is powerful.
The processed information has now become YOUR perception in the information center of your thoughts. Your perception is the lens that you view your life. It is the lens that filters every thought, feeling, decision, and action.
Life has a way of distorting your perception due to: Pain, offense, abandonment, anxiety, fear, loss, etc. Once your perception is altered, it will affect the way you perceive your information.
In other words –
your hard drive can be altered and begin to act as a virus.
The altered information will begin to poison your mind and distort your viewpoint on life, or certain situations – and it can be extremely difficult in areas that relate to the initial injury (pain, fear, offense, etc.).
Many years ago, I attended a church training that was focused on Christian counseling. I heard a profound statement that changed my life, “Our perception is our truth, but it doesn’t mean it’s true.” At that moment, I realized how important it was to evaluate what I perceived to be true – and confirm that it was actually true.
An additional revelation I learned was that “We do what we do because we believe what we believe. So, if you want to change someone’s actions, you must first change their belief.”
These truths have significantly impacted my personal healing and recovery from my past. They have brought great wisdom and strategy to me as I processed through my perceptions and weighed them against the Word of God. I was determined to not agree with the lies of the enemy.
I believe there are 4 main Perception Viewpoints in life:
- The Now Viewpoint
- The Past Viewpoint
- The Vision Viewpoint
- The Eternal Viewpoint
I will discuss each of these viewpoints over the next 4 blogs:
The Now: The circle of life – your current circumstance.
The Past: Your journey from childhood until yesterday.
The Vision: Your vision and plan for the next 3-5 years.
The Eternal: Your journey from today and into eternity – forever.
The Lord gave me this Prophetic Word for you:
“I truly believe this is the time to have eyes to see. To see through healed lenses, so our perceptions can be aligned with the Word of God and not distorted by pain and fear. We cannot afford to miss what Father God is revealing to each of us.
I believe our best days are ahead of us. The greatest miracles and harvest of souls are about to shake the foundation of our belief systems and tear down walls of our natural intelligence and false gods.
The supernatural is about to break through the natural like never before!
I believe this is the time for Christians to be open to what Father God is speaking, and be quick to move when the doors open. Our faith will be stretched beyond measure.
The Word will come alive. The Lord will become more real to us through His Word and in His Presence than we’ve ever encountered before.
Expect to be shocked. Expect to be surprised. Expect to see.
The earth is shaking and our foundation is being tested. Our faith is on trial. No longer can we afford to depend on what we know, because we will be tested on what we believe.
Don’t be afraid, these are our greatest days. This is the time to see and hear the Lord more than ever. This is the time to rise up and fulfill ‘The Great Commission.’”
1 Samuel 12:16 (NIV)
“Now then, stand still and see this great thing the Lord is about to do before your eyes!”
1 Corinthians 2:9 (NIV)
“However, as it is written: ‘What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived’- the things God has prepared for those who love him.”
Do you want to see?
Do you want to have a healthy perception that lines up with the Word of God? Do you want to be free from distorted views about yourself? Do you want to be free from distorted views about your life? I do too.
Stay tuned for the next blog – when I release The Now Viewpoint.
I speak blessings & an abundance of peace over you today,
Julie G.
